From July 28-30, Climate Program Office Director Wayne Higgins and CPO Climate and Health Lead Juli Trtanj are participating in a workshop on the development of climate services for a National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS).
The White House announced the creation of NIHHIS in June 2015, and this workshop is a critical step in its development. Heat early-warning systems can serve as effective tools for reducing illness, death, and loss of productivity associated with heat waves. The workshop is sponsored by NOAA, the Centers for Disease Control, the World Meteorological Organization, the Deutscher Wetterdienst, and the Global Framework for Climate Services.
