On June 22, 2022, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) COVID-19 Research Task Team issued recommendations providing an overview of knowledge, reflections and lessons learned. CPO’s Juli Trtanj served on the WMO COVID-19 Task Team that produced these recommendations and other reports. The reports are designed to provide advice to National Meteorological and Hydrological Services regarding the provision of services for COVID-19., given that the WMO community can provide useful information to support the health sector during a pandemic, or localized outbreaks and public health emergencies. The recommendations include the appropriate role of forecast information, the imperative of working in tandem with health professionals throughout the pandemic, the importance of building partnerships before outbreaks occur, and the many ways in which climate and weather information can aid response and recovery.
