RISA Planning Activity Grantee to Host a Workshop on Heat + Housing + Health Equity Across the Southeastern U.S.

Funded as part of a NOAA RISA planning grant to establish a regional “Heat + Housing + Health Equity Network” for the Southeastern U.S. (Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi), this virtual workshop will take place on June 23, 2022 and is the first of a two-part initiative to develop a regional network of communities, practitioners, and researchers. This workshop will focus on challenges, unmet needs, and data gaps. The following workshop will address pathways to solutions.

Select speakers will include:

  • Dr. Rachel Licker, Union of Concerned Scientists, author of “Killer Heat” and “Too Hot to Work” reports

  • John Morales, Broadcast Meteorologist for NBC 6 South Florida

  • Dr. Wendell Porter, Community Weatherization Coalition (CWC), University of Florida, Agricultural & Biological Engineering Department
