Climate Adaptation Partnerships Program History

The CAP/RISA program supports research teams that help expand and build the nation’s capacity to prepare for and adapt to climate variability and change. Central to the CAP/RISA approach are commitments to process, partnership, and trust building. In 2022, Congress directed NOAA to change the name of the Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) program to “Climate Adaptation Partnerships (CAP)”. The name “Climate Adaptation Partnerships” is a fitting name for the program as it exists today. Climate Adaptation not only refers to the applied and integrated science produced by the network, but also the active nature of working directly with decision makers on their implementation options and the science that informs and supports those decisions over time. Partnerships refers to the web of collaborative relationships between researchers and stakeholders within the regions, as well as the larger connections among regional teams that support peer-to-peer learning and leverage knowledge and expertise for national impact. Please see below for a list of select CAP/RISA documents which outline the history of the program, as well as state the objectives and goals of the program:
